Kentucky football adds FCS All-American punter to the roster
The UK program has made an addition to its roster.
Kentucky has added Tennessee-Martin punter transfer Aidan Laros to the roster for the upcoming season, he announced on X. Laros was named FCS All-American first team by the Associated Press and Phil Steele last season.
Last season, he had 52 punts with an average of 47.5 yards per punt, including a long of 71-yards.
Laros joined the Skyhawks after two seasons with Will Healy’s Charlotte program. There, he handled all kickoff duties. The opposition returned just 13 kicks on 51 kickoffs, as well as 28 touchbacks. The 2021 season was spent redshirting.
Prior to his days as a collegiate athlete, played at Northwood High School in Chapel Hill, where he was a specialist, as well as a linebacker. During his senior season, he was named Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-League selection at linebacker.
Originally born in Cape Town, South Africa, Laros moved to the United States as a freshman in high school. His father, Adrian, played 14 seasons of Division I rugby in South Africa as well as three seasons of professional rugby in France. The 22-year-old also has a background in rugby. His grandfather was a pitcher in the Canadian League back in the 1950s.
The Wildcats dipped into the FCS ranks for kicker Alex Raynor, which has worked out well. Running backs coach Jay Boulware has been tasked with overhauling the special teams unit in his short time with the program. Michael Priefer Jr. has been integral in facilitating those changes also.
Specialist Jackson Smith entered the transfer portal this offseason and landed at Western Kentucky. Reserve kicker Chance Poore had exhausted his eligibility.
