It’s been a sublime weekend for Birmingham City’s youngsters with play-off success for the under-18s and the under-21s.

Blues’ U21s defeated Millwall at The Den on Friday night to book their place in the Professional Development League National Final. They will face either Sheffield United or Swansea City.

The under-18s enjoyed their own success at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Saturday by beating Bristol City on penalties. Martyn Olorenshaw’s side will now face Charlton Athletic in their respective final.

Junior Dixon’s goals were again the difference for the under-21s against Millwall. The red-hot striker scored both goals for Blues to take his tally to 19 for the season across all competitions.

The Londoner wasn’t able to force his way into the first team last season but his record for the second string should present him with an opportunity to impress in pre-season.

He reflected: “It’s my first year here and in my career I’ve had so many ups and downs, and my family were here, and a lot of emotions came over me. I felt like I proved a lot of people wrong.

“As a striker I feel like that’s my job. You might miss a few chances or you might not get to where you need to get to, but there’s always someone to prove wrong and there’s always someone watching.

“I don’t want to take anything away from the team. Without them I wouldn’t be anywhere. Without him (Brad Mayo) in goal in training, I wouldn’t be able to score half the goals I score.”
