ESPN REPORT: Arkansas baseball Lose A Mega-Star To South Carolina….
South Carolina catcher Cole Messina homered in the top of the ninth inning and the Gamecocks withstood an Arkansas rally in the bottom of the inning to defeat the Razorbacks 6-5 on Wednesday during the quarterfinals of the SEC Baseball Tournament.
The 10th-seeded Gamecocks (35-21) moved into the winners bracket of the quarterfinals and will play a non-elimination game against 11th-seeded LSU on Thursday.
Arkansas, the No. 2 seed, will play third-seeded Kentucky in an elimination game Thursday at 9:30 a.m. LSU defeated Kentucky 11-0 in eight innings Wednesday.
Messina’s second two-run home run of the game was on a first-pitch breaking ball from Gabe Gaeckle with no outs in the ninth inning. Like Messina’s first homer against Parker Coil in the fifth inning, it followed Blake Jackson getting hit by a pitch to lead off an inning.

HOOVER, Ala. — Arkansas baseball faces Kentucky in the losers bracket of the SEC Tournament Thursday, with both teams sitting one defeat away from elimination.
The game is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. CT on SEC Network.
The second-seeded Razorbacks (43-13) lost to South Carolina 6-5 Wednesday in the second round. Kentucky (39-13), the three seed, fell earlier in the day to No. 11 LSU.

Arkansas will start Hagen Smith (9-0, 1.52 ERA) Thursday against the Wildcats. Smith needs six strikeouts to set the single season record at Arkansas.
