Providence guard Devin Carter declaring for…..

Devin Carter, the Big East player of the year, told ESPN his college career is over and he will be declaring for the 2024 NBA draft.

“I will be forgoing my senior year at Providence,” Carter said.Carter, ranked No. 17 in the ESPN 100 among NBA draft prospects, had an outstanding season for Providence, leading the Big East in scoring and finishing third in the conference in rebounding. He earned an honorable mention nod on the Associated Press’ All-America team.

Carter averaged 19.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.8 steals and 1 block per game, shooting 38% from 3 for the Friars, who were controversially left out of the NCAA tournament field.

Known as one of the most versatile and impactful defenders in college basketball, Carter made significant offensive improvement in his junior season under newly instated head coach Kim English, becoming a far more prolific and dangerous shooter while shouldering significant shot-creation duties for Providence.

His ability to defend multiple positions with his strong 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame and 6-foot-9 wingspan, and the toughness he brings as a rebounder give him outstanding role-playing potential with the myriad ways he impacts winning.

Carter is the son of Anthony Carter, who played in the NBA for 13 years as an undrafted free agent and is currently an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The NBA draft will be held over two days in New York City on June 26 and 27. The first round will be conducted at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, followed by the second round the next day at ESPN’s studio in lower Manhattan.
