Aaron Rodgers is gearing up for his 20th year in the NFL, and he’s trying to make a triumphant return to action for the New York Jets after suffering a torn Achilles in their first game of the 2023 campaign. What Rodgers is attempting to do isn’t easy, and it’s safe to say that there are quite a few fans out there who don’t have much faith in his ability to lead the Jets on a championship run this season. That’s a narrative former Jets linebacker Bart Scott isn’t a fan of, and he stepped in to defend the legendary quarterback. Scott openly asked if there were actually five quarterbacks in the league who are better than Rodgers, while also stating that the talented passer looked great when he showed up to watch the team practice.

There’s no doubt that Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, but attempting to comeback from a torn Achilles at the age of 40 is easier said than done. Still, the Jets have a bevy of playmakers surrounding Rodgers, such as Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, and Mike Williams, so if he can play up to his usual level, chances are New York will make some noise. Scott clearly has faith in Rodgers, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in his return to action for the Jets.

checking in on edge rusher Will McDonald IV’s potential 2nd year breakout

I wrote an article earlier this season about the potential for New York Jets edge rusher Will McDonald to break out in year 2.

Since then, the importance of Will McDonald to the New York Jets has skyrocketed as star edge rusher Haason Reddick has been holding out in hopes of receiving a new contract. Given that, McDonald may be thrust into a starting role as early as week 1 against the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers, which is a potentially big challenge for the young player.

While preseason games obviously do not provide competition against the cream of the crop, a good sign for McDonald’s potential to make good on his potential would be to dominate against lesser competition. Thankfully, he has done just that as a pass rusher.

Whether this performance will continue into the regular season remains to be seen. However, if this pass rushing dominance does carry over then the Jets could very well have their second breakout edge rusher in as many years with McDonald following Jermaine Johnson II’s footsteps.
